Marriage between sphinxes is an option available to all sphinxes, but has advantages and disadvantages to consider. Married sphinxes have a greater chance of successfully producing a cub. However, married sphinxes may only breed with each other.
Divorce is possible and was actually common in Egypt, but Isis does not look favourably on sphinxes who spurn her blessing and tend to curse them for a time with infertility and refuses to allow them to find another partner until her temper cools. (ie. Those sphinxes cannot breed or marry for a set amount of time.) If that sphinx wishes to remarry, they need an extra statue for each time they have been married previously, to win back Isis's blessing.
Sphinxes may also have multiple husbands and/or wives. An extra statue is required for each additional spouse a sphinx marries. Sphinxes may also have same-gender marriage partners. These practices were not unheard of among the ancient Egyptians, and is available to all sphinxes.
The Caste System:
|
|
The ancient Egyptians were a very caste driven society. Your class level often determined your peers, who you worked with, and who you married. Marrying above or below your level was not unheard of, but was rare. Sphinxes can marry a different class level, but there are consequences. If two sphinxes of different levels marry, there is an 80% chance that the higher leveled sphinx drops a level (and needs to change class). This represents the social troubles that they would deal with. But, there is that remaining 20% chance that the lower level raises to the next social station instead and gains a new class of their new level. This shows the occational, special time that somebody is able to marry into the 'good life'. A Statue of Hathor, however, will secure that goddess's blessing on the union, and no class changes will occur.

Marriage Between Sphinxes:

Getting your sphinxes married is as simple as sending a request to the Sphinxes account on PI. As long as you have the neccessary statue, the union will take place. Married sphinxes have a heart added to their cert that includes the ID number of their spouse. Additional hearts are added for each additional spouse. You will need an additional statue of the appropriate level for each additional spouse that you add on (i.e. 2 statues for the 2nd spouse, 3 statues for the third, etc.).

Marriage Items - The Statues of Isis:
All marriages require a Statue of Isis that matches the level of the sphinxes to be married. In the case of sphinxes of different levels, the statue matching the higher level will be required. All statues are available in the shop in limited quantities when the shop is open. Occasionally, statues may also be given out as prizes.
