Sphinxes are a unique adoptable in that the sphinxes themselves can hold and change jobs, also known as classes. As a sphinx changes jobs, it's costume will change in a very paper doll like way. There are standard costumes for each of the standard classes, though unique individualization is available (such as adding on a wig).

Acquiring a Class:
A sphinx can progress in class in a variety of ways. Job fairs can be held any time of the year, though the main one is typically during the Heb-Bastet festival every spring. There are also job upgrade vouchers that may be available as a shop item for purchasing, or as prizes during games. Sphinxes can also change jobs during a roleplay as an award.

Class Progression:
There are 5 level of classes, though only the first three levels are available to the general population, with levels 4 and 5 being reserved for extremely special occastions and not availble by normal means. Any peasant may progress to any level 2 job, but all level 3 jobs require a certain level 2 job as a prerequisite.

Class Tree for available classes:
Here, you may see which level 2 classes are required for each level 3 class. There are a few level 3 classes that are available only during special times during the year, and have special requirements to achieve.

Class Examples and Descriptions:

-- LEVEL 1 --

Peasant

Most Sphinxes are born into a life of Peasantry. They are the backbone of civilization. They harvest the land, the water and even the sky. They cook your meals. They make your beer, your tools, your weapons and your cloths. They build your houses, your boats and your chariots. Without peasants there would be no civilization and don't believe any courtier who tells you otherwise. A wise, strong, crafty or lucky peasant can improve thier lot in life though, becoming a Scribe, Dancer, Solider, Archer or perhaps even a Thief.

Scribe

Scribes are the most literate group of males and females in all of Khemit. They are the personal message takers, the accountants and the teachers of our young. All of these jobs require the highest levels of trust as well as a meticulous accuracy. Although most Sphinxes who become Scribes and content with their job, a few use this most excellent position as an entry into even more advanced postions, like Priest or Magician....

Dancer

Belly Dancer Artist: AriyaEretsee

Dancers are currently the most popular entertainers and are always in great demand! It takes grace and dexterity to become a professional dancer and good looks certainly don't hurt. The most popular dancers can become extremly wealthy, even becoming Courtiers themselves, though living in the spotlight can be hard on some. Many dancers become known for their eccentricities although sometimes this can make them even more popular depending on current gossip!

Musician

Musicians breathe life into every event. They provide inspiration and beauty for all Sphinxes and work paw in paw with many dancers to create true entertainment for the soul! Musicians come from all walks of life and it is profession where talent and training show through. Some parties and well as some noble houses may be measured simply by the quality of its musicians!

Thief (Golden Paw)

Thief (Hand of Darkness)

By some default of the Cosmos, Thieves fall into this so called level two tier. Their daring can become legendary and their chosen profession as been quite romanticized by the current Courtiers of substance. The most important distinction among thieves is guild. There are currently two guilds that matter in the cities of Khemit, the Golden Paw and the Hand of Darkness. The Golden Paw are notorious rogues of charisma, wit and daring, seeming to overlook the honest Sphinx and making prey of known corrupt officials, particularly greedy merchants and other unpopular personalities in turn lifting their popularity with the people. The Hand of Darkness will take your money or your life with equal coldness and their highest ranks consist of the most feared Assassins whom have ever walked the sands of Khemit. While the Golden Paw gain their status from popularity, the Hand of Darkness take their status from fear.

Soldier (male only) and Archer

Soldiers and Archers walk a similar path in life, only seperated by their skills in arms. They are the warriors that keep our lands free from invaders. They are our police who keep peace on the streets and wrestle to keep the Thieves guilds from running rampant. Some become private guards for whomever can employ them protecting households and caravans alike. They are known for working very hard and playing just as hard. Soldiers and Archers should be respected, but be wary, sometimes a hard life can lead to an equally hard personality, although this is not always the case.

Hunter

For those who are still wild at heart but wish to follow a more honorable lifestyle then Hunter might be the job for you. Hunters stalk the wilderness for food, pelts and other animal resources. They catch live animals like birds for farms, chase dangerous beasts like hyenas away from civilization and catch noble wild creatures like cheetahs for pets.

Medium (female only)

Mediums are the average Sphinxes means to connect with the afterlife. They have no strong ties to the Temples (though this does not prevent them from being equally religieous!) but provide their services to those who need it. Many claim to have a direct link or connection to the realms of the Duat.

They bless our fields, our houses, our children and everything else that is important. They maintain our temples, burning incence and giving sacrifice to keep the Gods happy and giving of their blessing. They have given their lives to devotion, memorising ancient prayers and rituals to bring life and guide the dead and care for every stage in between. They are blessed and deserving of much respect.

Magician

Magicians recruit the most talented Scribes into their secretive apprenticeships. They are wonderworkers and some of the most knowledgeable Sphinxes in the world. They make things happen, and can change the world. They are highly sought after by anyone who can retain their services and the Pharaoh himself has many in his employ, at least if you believe the rumors.

Their gossip alone can elevate your status or leave you in the gutter.

Tomb Robber

Tomb Robbers search the many lost and forgotten secrets hidden under the sands. Being they are experienced Golden Paw members I can only assume that they don't actually rob tombs, but their secrets are there own....

Assassin

... and some secrets are best left in the shadows...

Charioteer (male only)

Charioteers are soldiers brave enough to get into gleaming contraptions pulled by various beasts of war and be pulled with blinding speed to battle! The sight alone has terrified invaders into fleeing after smashing their ranks. These elite warriors are feared the world over, except of course in Khemit where they are hailed as the heroes they are!
